About Me

I am from Puyallup, Washington and an only child. For those that don't know where Puyallup is it is about 40 minutes South of Seattle. I have lived in the same house my whole life. My mom was a stay at home mom where my dad went to work five days a week. I did gymnastics for 14 years and did it competitively for four years then moved onto high school gymnastics when I became a freshman in high school. I definitely would not be the same person if I didn't have gymnastics in my life. It was a huge part of my life growing up.

Education

I am an Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising major with an American Sign Language and Retail Management Minor. I will be graduating in June 2019 and will hopefully start as a retail manager and work up to an assistant buyer or a buyer. I have learned so much in this program and I still have a little less than two years to go. Being in this major has shaped me and given me knowledge not just in fashion but with life as a whole. People think that we just study clothing but in fact it is way more than that. It has helped me figure out what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Strengths

I feel like being at college and being in this major have helped me grow as a person dramatically. It has helped me be more prepared for the real world with the amount of work and the kind of work that we have at to do. The work is time consuming but worth it in the end when you work at the end result. The Fashion Show this past year in 2017 I was part of the staging committee which meant we were in charge of the lighting and the stage format (building and designing). It was fun but stressful because other people were counting on you and four other people to get the job done well and on time. That show really made me grow as a person.

Values

I always want to try new things. I am always down to explore and learn new things. From going through some of the classes in this program made me think that I am lucky to have been brought like I have been. Some people weren't as lucky on how they were brought up. In classes like the Sociocultural Aspects of Apparel where we learn about dress in ethnicities and cultures and how people are brought up sometimes in a closed minded community. This class helped my mind open up even more and let me absorb even more information.

Technical Knowledge

In high school I was lucky enough to be able to take two photography classes along with a yearbook class. In all three classes I learned how to use Photoshop which is very handy in the fashion industry. I not only know how to take good pictures but know how to edit them as well. Also I grew up messing around on Microsoft Word and Excel so when I had to take an IT class for the program I already had a background in that area. Knowing programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access makes them great tools for further needs. I also have multiple social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest) so I know the newest trends whether it is technology, clothes, makeup and many more.
